HISTORY OF BURUNKOY VILLAGE

Burunkoy village where the KAYIKHANE located is over the hills of Gumusluk's Koyunbaba region. Gumusluk is build up over the ruins of an ancient city; called Myndos. History of Myndos is as old as Bodrum. During the sunset; while the sun is touching the sea, surface of the sea seems like silver which gives the name of the region. "GUMUS" means "SILVER" in Turkish. History of Gumusluk goes back to 5000 years. It is still possible to see the ruins of city of Myndos under the sea and the chaples from the Bizantion time, city walls from the Leleg civilization. Inspite of the quick urbanization of Bodrum, Gumusluk effected less and for Burunkoy we can say almost untouched yet. If you follow the sea side road from Gumusluk to Yalıkavak destination, you will reach to "Koyunbaba" where the stones of the Mouselium were picked up. Mouselium is one of the seven wonders of the world and located in Bodrum this stone mine kept it's beauty till now. Besides the stone mine, lies the Koyunbaba beach. Year's ago people were living at and arround the Burunkoy Village to avoid the possible enemy thereads which might come from the sea. By the time, when the danger was over, people moved back to th sea-side. Burunkoy is still keeping it's historical and naturel beauty.
